As Think Progress pointed out Hatch’s concern about the fate of the two party system is an old argument first advanced by Ronald Reagan back in 1961. Somehow the republican party has co-opted medicare as their own. Tea party protesters show up with signs admonishing Obama that he better "keep his hands off my medicare". Tell ya what though, here's a prophecy that's far more likely than Senator Hatch's prediction: In ten years republicans will campaign with scare tactics cautioning voters that their democrat opponents want to cut funding to the public option. And I'll laugh my ass off.
